A Stamped finish is well known to be one of the most visually appealing concrete finishes. To achieve this finish, concrete finishers use rubber molded mats to stamp a pattern or texture onto the concrete while it is curing. In this process, timing is everything. The concrete must be cured enough to be able to bear the weight of the installer while they are standing on the mat, but must be soft and impressionable to be able to take the impression from the stamp. It is important to have an experienced and skilled crew to be able to manage the process with a high degree of quality and consistency.

Most of the time, stamped concrete will also have a colour added to the concrete mix. At our company, we generally use the Interstar colours. There are two main ways to add colour to concrete while it is being poured. 1) Spreading colour powder over the surface of the slab while it is curing, or 2) mix the colour powder throughout the mixed concrete.

We at Concrete Experts prefer to use the second method of adding colour called Integral Colour. It can be more expensive but it will last longer.

Stamped concrete provides the ultimate aesthetics. It is popular for its ability to replicate the elegance of natural materials while providing the benefits of concrete’s durability. It will require regular sealing, without which it is more prone to wear and tear compared to other finishes. There is a large variety of concrete stamp patterns and textures that can be used. We own a few ourselves, and can install any stamp pattern that we can rent stamps for also. Some of the more popular varieties include cobble stone, ashlar’s slate, Slate texture. If you have a question about whether we can install a particular pattern or design of stamp please ask. Sealing

We recommend sealing your stamped concrete as soon as it is placed and every few years after that. Over time, the elements and traffic from using the pad will start to wear down the top finish of the pad. A coat of sealer will help to preserve any surface level colour. We have a variety of sealers that we use depending on the application including a cure and seal specially purposed for decorative concrete.
